Work Ahead on Wedding Details

For the majority of our readers your wedding is probably somewhere between 6-9 months away now and you may be experiencing a lull in your wedding planning. There isn't a ton to do right now, according to the lists you have, and you have worked sufficiently ahead so that you even have the few tasks you were supposed to be doing now finished.  So, what should you do?  Surely you should not relax for awhile?

Well, relaxing and enjoying the holiday season is actually the first thing I would recommend.   You deserve a break from planning and could probably use some quality time with your spouse-to-be and family that does not involve anything to do with the wedding.  (To help you out, check out these articles on Reducing Wedding Stress)

On the other hand, I know that there are a lot of you out there who are just itching to do something.  Well, here are 10 suggestions of small things that you can do now that may make your life easier as your wedding day approaches.

  1. If you haven't already, nail down your guest your list.  This is so important - you need correct addresses as well as numbers of invitees for almost everything you will be planning for.  So be sure to get this finished!
  2. Purchase Thank You Cards and begin addressing envelopes for guests you know will be coming to a Bridal Shower or your wedding.
  3. Listen to the radio and talk with friends and family about songs that must be played at your wedding as well as songs you absolutely do not want played at your wedding.  Make a list to give to your DJ.
  4. Create a personalized wedding map to your ceremony and reception to send with your invitations.
  5. Assemble a Bridal Emergency Kit.
  6. Re-connect with your bridesmaids.  Send them a Thank You note to let them know how much you appreciate their friendship and presence on your big day.  DON'T mention anything having to do with wedding details (no matter how much you are tempted)!
  7. Envision your wedding day and make a Bridal Party Schedule.
  8. On the day of your work party or a big holiday party have your hair stylist practice your "do" for your wedding day.  Wear your hair to the party and see what everyone thinks.  (Check out our article on Wedding Hairstyles.)
  9. Go shopping with your mother for her Mother of the Bride dress.
  10. Begin creating and putting together any special touches you would like at your wedding.

You may get some, none, or all of these things accomplished, but don't forget to relax and enjoy this holiday season.  It is a time for family and friends and it would be a shame to be so wrapped up in wedding planning that you miss out on it.

Best Wishes,
Kelly Kons
